The story of a purchase guy- Part 1

This is the story of my life since last 8 months. I have experienced certain truths of sales and purchase negotiation which is not written in any textbook. Life is cruel and corporate world is devilish and punish in its own way.

Story starts from corridors of very known business school of the country. Final placements were just around the corner. Library was full till 4 am, Junta want to mugg up everything which can possibly ask by an interviewer or can be a part of group discussion topic. Guys you have not taken a single day seriously were began to worry about their future. Pre-placement talks were been a ritual in institute, every one was talking about signups, profiles, salaries blah blah blah...

In between there was a guy having aspiration to join India best corporation in a marketing role because he was in opinion it is the best job he can have. Finally the d-day came:

Placements (Day 1): Shortlisted for 4 group discussion and one interview with India's largest telecom operator. Result: No Offer

Placements (Day 2): A relatively unknown company (Trident Group- not Trident Hotels) shortlisted my name for interview. I was no prepared for the interview as it was all sudden. I had an image that it is same group which own popular hotel chain. Before appearing for interview my dreaming free lunches in Oberoi group of hotels -Tridents and Vilas

First interview round: Very casual, questions related to my engineering, I was explaining metallurgy rather Marketing. Second round: They offered me a job and ask to decide whether I want to join in supply chain or not. First day was tough for me so I was thinking that taking a job is no harm as I can later switch to my choice o profile in career (Still a distant dream). So I was through, had a job offer in something called - Supply Chain Management (SCM)

I partied with some friends in Noida in weekend and felt relief from tension for a job (Afterall it was not a great year for campus placement), not knowing where Iam headed to.

Hum Kya Chahte- Aazadi??

Its been months, I have not written anything. But this time it is difficult to keep myself from writing.

Topic here is KASHMIR! A topic on which everyone has his/her own perspective and views. We look it as our internal matter but are they think so (Kashmiris) - an internal matter of India. KASHMIR — AND THE Kashmiri — is a question with a big Question. From past 3 month this so called heaven on earth is burning an burning like hell. Killing are common, Curfew from part 8 days, shoot at sight order, 50 people killed in firing, separatists are active like in 1989 and single slogan – “ HUM KYA CHAHTE- AAZADI”.

Still we Indian think Kashmiris are own part/people. There was a national wide BHARAT BANDH in July, several protests, at few place Lathicharge but no one died but if same happen in Kashmir will it be same? How there can be more than 50000 AK-47 in valley, where government is sleeping when such a movement has planned?

Stone pelting has come daily routine, Hurriyat leading movement in this way by moving innocent children, women, young generation in front and support of militancy from back. They understood the need of change of strategy to realize world that Kashmir is next Palestine and their intervention is required. But whatever their motive is I feel Govt. is insensitive to their plea. Not a single big politician has moved himself to the site (Srinagar) to talk why there is so much agitation and what is possible solution. Instead they are enjoying their meals, meetings and busy in so called fight for common man.

It’s a complete failure of Govt. machinery and insensitivity for the issue. Many of my friends will ask to suggest me a solution, but I too don’t have answer but I can say that political efforts are required to bring back peace, talks are necessary with all groups and force is definitely not a solution to curb protest.

As far as the word/slogan AAZADI goes it has been define in different ways. KASHMIRIS are not only population of J & K so it seems irrelevant but something should be done to restore faith and believe in them that India is their country and best option they have. Save innocents, reduce military intervention, lesser budget for Kashmir issue, abolish 370, give jobs and education, strong leadership and international stand then we can hope for better future.

Women's "Whatever", "Anything" or "You Decide"

Funny piece of events I come across recently:

1 . (Whatever)

Boy: What should we have for dinner?
Girl: Whatever..
Boy: Why don't we have Punjabi?
Girl: No not Punjabi, the last time i got pimples on my face
Boy: Alright, why don't we have Rajasthani cuisine
Girl: Yesterday we ate Rajasthani, today too?
Boy: Hmm..... I suggest we have South Indian food
Girl: South Indian food is not good, I got diarrhea
Boy: Then what do you suggest?
Girl : Whatever..

2. (Anything)

Boy: So what should we do now?
Girl: Anything
Boy: How about watching a movie? It's been a long time
Girl: Watching movie is no good, it's a waste of time
Boy: How about we go for bowling, or some exercises?
Girl: Exercise on such a hot day?
Boy: Then find a cafe and have a drink
Girl: I am off caffeine
Boy: Then what do you suggest?
Girl: Anything

3. (You decide)

Boy: Then do we just go home?
Girl: You decide
Boy: Let's take the bus, I will accompany you
Girl: The bus is dirty and crowded.
Boy: OK; we will take a cab
Girl: Not worth it... for such a short distance
Boy: All right, then we can walk. We can enjoy the weather
Girl: I am hungry, can't walk.
Boy: Then what do you suggest?
Girl: You decide
Boy: Let's have dinner first?
Girl: Whatever...
Boy: What shall we eat?
Girl: Anything..

Any comments girls?

Engineering College Rankings 2010 - College Khabar

Hi all,

Recently Collegekhabar.com has started a campaign for ranking Engineering Colleges in India. They claim that it would be one of reliable ranking as they would going to consider student's perspective in big way along with Placement stats.

I am agreed on one point that 'Ranking' of should have element of placement above all which every student look in. Placements also reflect the trust institute has gained till date among Businesses. It also reflect quality of students, facilities utilization and live projects (some industries considered them very important like -IT)

I am copy-pasting details of this 'Ranking by Collegekhabar.com':

IITs & few other top-notch institutes rule in the engineering domain, but CollegeKhabar brings ‘Engineering College Rankings 2010’, an attempt to find out:

Institute where do top recruiters go first?

Institute which have the better placements?

Institute with the best academic environment?

Institute with the best corporate relations?

……and so on……

This ranking will be useful:

For engineering aspirants to compare among the best options available

For colleges to know where they stand & where to emphasize on improvement

For industry in their campus recruitment decisions

For students and alumni, for whom it is a matter of pride

But when there are already a lot of surveys/rankings done by big-shots in industry then what is the use of one more?

This survey will be focused on most important aspect student seek in a college – Placements*. Importance is also given on industrial relations, opportunity to work on good projects and quality of faculty members.

Quality of an institute can be judge by the perception of the students who are studying there or by opinions of Alumni. We tried to link them with this ranking. So this ranking/survey results will be the outcome of what current students & alumnus in engineering domain think about the institutes.

* Our secondary research shows that students put placements in engineering colleges a way ahead than faculty - student ratio, infrastructure, intellectual capital etc.

For further details about ‘Engineering College Rankings 2010’ & nominating your institute or the institute of your choice please visit:

Note: Nomination of an institute will also follow the popular choice along with certain fixed criteria (seen at-least3 placement seasons). More the number of requests more likely chances to be included in ranking 2010.

Important dates:

Last date of Nomination of an institute: 8th March, 2010

Start of online opinion poll: 10th March, 2010

Final ranking: 1st week of April, 2010

Happy New Year: Summary of year 2009

Only few hours left of 2009 and it’s time to reflect on the year that was. I thought 2009 would be a big one for me, but I don’t think I realised how life changing some of the events would be. When you face the year ahead you make goals, plans and set targets for yourself, having direction is a great thing. Often though, it’s the unexpected and the changes, the things we never could have foreseen that really make us.

This was a year of friendship, success & failures, love & hatred. This was my supposedly final year of my student life atleast for near future as I have no more plans to study. I need a break. I am studying since last 25 year now it’s time to do some real work.

I’m not making any really big New Year resolutions. I made a list of plans and things I would ‘like to’ achieve as I feel this is a much more flexible and approachable way to look at our future. So I’m saying for 2010, give it all you got, have a blast and make mistakes, it’s the best way to learn. Most of all enjoy! Nothing is a waste of time as long as we learn from it and at differently in the future. Now it is time to face the cruel world and do something that you are good at.

These are of few of highlights from 2009:

1) CollegeKhabar: One thing that seems impossible if someone had seen me and Hemant some years ago. Naveen and Praddy has definitely amused how can these two idiots (not stupid) driven by completely different counterviews can start something together called entrepreneurial venture

2) Placement: Job offer from Trident Group (but my Rona is still on). Year is ending with good news from Manoj and Suruchi.

3) Jhatpat Pyar phatapat Breakup (gsmnit can understand it better!!)

4) I met MNIT friends throughout year and cherish moments that we spent together.

5) IMT moments: In 2008 I was hardly socializing in IMT but in 2009 I made good friends, enjoyed partying together, Passion-09, chit-chats, sharing moments of placements, exams, project, competitions etc etc.

6) Memorable Pune holidays in April

7) The Manali trip: Again in Jan 2009 I went Manali with IMT friends enjoyed a lot but was missing the gang of 4.

8) Two months of summer internship in Gurgaon in extreme summers (read- heat + humidity) was one of most tough time of year.

9) Stood first in class – only in one trimester and no hope in future (People might say is it an important event I say it is something which I haven’t seen in past 10 years)

10) The second home “IMT- library” during exam time.

To sum up all I can say: ALL WASS WELL!!

London Dreams: Mocking Rock band life

I was feeling bore since past many days and life was seem to be stagnant. College, CK, Competitions and blah blah blah.. were sucking fun out of my life. This week even having so much work pending (specially Sales Management one- it is insane, evoking a freak out of me) I decided to watch a movie outside (my fav activity). I booked ticket a night before for LONDON DREAMS as I didn't want to comeback due to house-full problem.

Movie was decent. Salman was funny, interesting and entertaining. Role of Ajay Devgan has dark shades which suits him but movie went much ahead. Rest all were okay types. Movie mock life of rockstars but failed. Climax was too dramatic to digest (matches with any Priyadarshan's movie). One thing which went wrong in my opinion is itself star cast. 40+ (in age) heroes as upcoming rockstars difficult to digest yet both tried hard to be convincing. One can watch movie for once. Not great but watchable.

Now I am waiting eagerly for 3 idiots as promos are out and movie is releasing next month.

काँच की बरनी और दो कप चाय

Recently I come across this philosophy of life and I feel it worth sharing so here it goes:

Month of August- Lucky

I am not writing since launch of CollegeKhabar.com. These two months were most hectic ones I ever felt. Life was exciting but hectic. I find it difficult to manage between studies, CK and other activities like movies. But this period taught me big lesson that we can sustain with minimal of sleep if you involved yourself in something creative, something that excite you.

Month of August was lucky for me. We officially launch CK, I got a scholarship (for academic excellence, surprising) and many friends visit (Shiv Singh) in that month.

Happiness has very short life and thus we require small small doses of moments which bring smile on our face and month of August was full of it. I got my first appearance ever in Newspaper(for CK). That was quite exciting, got many calls from friends in Jaipur, messages congratulating for my efforts.

But in all these thing I left blogging which I feel was not right. I need to keep writing(I know no one other interested in what I write but still....) and I will.

A morning in library!!

Life sometimes teach you lesson that if you don’t work on time and wait till your a$# put on fire certain consequences will definitely be there.

Yesterday I had midterm exam of strategic management course, as usual I started studying after 10 pm. As soon I started I come to know that syllabus was too vast to study in a night. Before exam in morning I had to attend the classes of TQM (not Total Quality Management but QTM: Quantity of Time is Murdered). So have to read whatever possible in that night. All thanks to previous day schedule that I haven’t got chance to sleep for 4 hours. So in total I was sleepy sleepy yet weepy to go through course.

With 4 coffee breaks in 4 hours and 1 full hour healthy discussion (read crap) with Messcom the task to finish the required reading had become mammoth task. I decided to follow great Mr. Newton who proposed their first law: Law of inertia and started reading without break until I was forced to do so. I burnt lamp whole night in library (read tube lights) suddenly someone came to patted my back. I was scared!!! But he was the librarian who said "dude it’s time to pack up" I looked around I was the only one there and watch is showing 5.45 am... I packed up and went to room. Syllabus was still not completed moreover need to attend classes in morning (which was already there). I twit, update status watched video of “India Got Talent” on YouTube and finally down on bed hoping for some luck for next day. This sums up an average night during exams in IMT for me.

Sankat City: A saga of co-incidences!!

I just watched movie "Sankat City" starring KK menon, Anupam Kher and Rimi Sen.

In movie anupam is Don and KK is a car thief. Story moves around a lots of characters. Movie is all about chasing money and how so many characters are trying to pay back loan to don (Anupam). I don't want to write story otherwise it would make more loss to producers (Already they were feeling losses).

Whole movie is a saga of co-incidences. It remind me novel "Anything for you ma'am" where there are so many coincidences that one of my friend that time said that it is too difficult to digest the story. Same is the case with Sankat City, script is tight but so many sequences and scenes changes so fast that it is difficult to catch the pace and to understand the role of every character.

I recommend movie to those who are hard core fans of Hindi movies and watch it online good print is available.

Poetry

Hectic days !!!

"Hectic" word that I often use to fool friends showing that yes! I am doing something...But suddenly it has taken the life out of me. I am worried when I put this much of efforts in my life (except first few days in IMT, PDP days :) )

Schedule for trimester is very hectic in July as having classes from 8.30 am till 9.00 pm. Classes like PDM takes much more than it seems. You need to well read the cases, supported readings and "mentally prepared" to attend a single class. I don't know how much will I gain from Brand Management course but I am sure at the end of this course I will be killed by CBBE ( Not Consumer Based Brand Equity but Cadaverous By Brain Explosion)

I am trying to study SPSS from last 6 months(academic record say so...) and by end of every session it goes more complicated. Collegekhabar is a commitment that I do with myself only. I want to complete project in July but now it gonna be more difficult with as schedule. All this is happening only because of Strategy Course. Classes more SM are too much as course need to be completed in 10 days ( 3months course in 10 days, imagine the kind of pace this course will take) as taught by Prof Mallock from France (English guy). He need time to understand bunch of guys who need a insight for the sake of insight! (confusing!! even I remain confused in same way in his class)

Don't know what is lying more in this month....

NITs Ranking : 2009

I am willing to share this article to help admission seekers in some sense.

Article goes like this: (Source : http://www.collegekhabar.com)

NITs Ranking: 2009

It is well known that after IITs, NITs are most sought colleges for admission in engineering streams. They are much ahead than any other engineering institute in terms of placements, faculties, infrastructure and more. After AIEEE 2009 we found many requests for helping students in ranking these institutes.

Many of admission seekers are confused over rankings of various NITs. We discussed with our team and on basis of placement during last past 5 years, infrastructure (future plans included), faculty - student ratio, industry interactions and workshops, industrial training and alumni network we tried to figure out some rankings.

Finally the ranking looks something like this.
