Indian Moon Mission: Chandrayaan I
On 21st Oct, 2008 at 6:22AM world wittessed the glory of Indian space program. India launch its first moon mission Chandrayaan-I despite inclement weather at the mission complex, Sriharikota. The other members of this global elite are the US, Russia, the European Space Agency, Japan and China. India is the sixth member of this club. Within minutes, the lift-off elevated India's position in the world. As dawn broke over Sriharikota, the mighty brown and white 44.4 metre tall four-stage Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) rose from the launch pad to carry the 1,400 kg spacecraft 384,000 km away to the moon in the first leg of its mission.
Yesterday I got a mail from Shiv Singh which led to include this information also in this post. Behind the success of mission various PSU's are also involved. MECON ( My probable ex-employer) has major stake in this mission. It was a proud moment for Mecon because Chadrayaan take off from the launch-pad made by Mecon Ltd.The construction of the Rs 20 crore, 4-metre high mobile launch pad — which proudly supported India’s first moon mission — at Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota was executed by Mecon on a total turnkey that included design and detailed engineering of the equipment that was primarily manufactured by HEC.
“Mecon has built the first-of-its-kind launch pad, 82.5-metre long with four lighting conductors and several unique features."
This lunched has open the gateway to learn more about moon and led ISRO in a position where they can leverage the position of much strong Space mission agency in world and help them to generate more and more revenues.
